Southern Maine's Changing
Railroad Infrastructure

A few years ago, CSX acquired Pan Am Railways in a merger of enormous significance to the New England railroad landscape. Since Pan Am was taken over, CSX has invested greatly in improving Southern Maine's charming but outdated infrastructure. Between 2023 and 2026, much of the remaining Maine Central power has been scrapped, old B&M signal bridges and searchlight signals have been dismantled, and a double-track project was completed along the main line in Southern Maine.

Featured here are images I've captured of the changeover from Pan Am to CSX and the modernization of Maine railroading.
